What is it about?
This article discusses the varying ways that societies, past and present, have conceptualized human-animal sex. It also considers the many ways that cultures have incorporated bestiality (whether literal, metaphorical, imaginal, or merely implied) into their art, myths, and religious and social practices.

Why is it important?
Even in the most progressive of milieux, I do not find many people willing to discuss bestiality openly. There is very little written on the topic, and certainly very little that is analytical -- most is descriptive.
Perspectives
I truly believe that this is a critical issue to examine, on so many levels. In order to understand why I feel this way, however, you will need to read all the way to the end.
