What is it about?

On 25 September 2015, in the framework of the 70th United Nations General Assembly, all the countries of the world adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development; the framework document that will govern activities for the well-being of people and the care of the planet over the next fifteen years. Businesses and the private sector, as well as governments and civil society, become key actors in the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), both locally and globally.

Why is it important?

This chapter presents an analysis and discussion of the contents of how the school is to become a space for civic education and where UNESCO assesses on a global scale and, within the SDG, the level of implementation of Global Citizenship Education in national and supranational education policies, teacher training programmes and plans and student assessment.
