What is it about?

Books that are required reading in Polish schools are often published with annotations, ostensibly to guide children's reading. The article shows how such editions of fairy tales creates a false, stereotypical image of these texts, as well as limiting readers' freedom of interpretation.

The article focuses on practices that influence children's reading, inscribing them within a network of power dynamics between education authorities, publishing industry, and child readers.

Perspectives

The proliferation of misconceptions in learning materials concerning something we are passionate about is often frustrating. With this article, I wanted to bring to light the practices that that may hamper the reading and interpretation of fairy tales - a subject that never ceases to amaze me.
