What is it about?
The chapter talks about how artificial intelligence (AI) might change politics and democracy. It discusses an idea called "predictive democracy," where AI machines make decisions by guessing what people want, instead of using elections. It looks at how this could change ideas about politics and affect democracy's fairness and independence. The text warns about the dangers of relying too much on AI for political decisions and says it's important to keep human understanding in the mix. It suggests being careful and thoughtful about using AI in government.

Why is it important?
AI is becoming a big part of our lives, including in politics. As AI gets more advanced, it could start making decisions in government, affecting democracy. The text helps us think about the balance between AI and human judgment in politics, and the risks of relying too much on AI. This is crucial as we figure out how to use AI responsibly in governance, ensuring democracy remains fair and independent.
Perspectives
The text was inspired by the fact that our contemporary debates on politics and artificial intelligence seem to rely on a very shallow understanding of what democratic politics is and should be. I have tried to add a more nuanced perspective, focusing on the aspects of politics that are frequently forgotten, namely that it is an essentially human activity, and not a necessary evil that should be automated away.
