What is it about?
This book chapter suggests ways to teach about the topic of war and literature in courses about Iran, Persian literature, World literature, or Middle Eastern literatures. The article proposes three eras and bodies of texts that teachers can bring to the university or secondary school classroom and suggests some ways to teach those texts, with a eye towards students based in American and European schools.

Why is it important?
To my knowledge, this is the first and only article to assist instructors in teaching this material about a place and people that are often misrepresented and whose histories and cultures are unknown outside Iran and Persian-speaking communities.
Perspectives
With this book chapter, I hope that instructors can walk away with some concrete examples of what to teach when teaching about the topic of war and literature in courses about Iran or the Persian literary tradition and how they might teach it.
