What is it about?

Mythology and science share common roots within the human mind, brain, and body. Both emerge out of a natural predilection towards curiosity and origin stories in the face of an uncertain, unpredictable universe. Whereas mythology is evolutionarily older and 'speaks' the language of the right brain, the newer enterprise enterprise of science 'speaks' the language of the left brain. The myth of Psyche & Eros is re-examined from a contemporary, neurological perspective.

Why is it important?

It is all to easy to treat mythology and science as non-overlapping binaries. Yet, from the perspective of neuroscience, they are highly related and completely interpenetrating. This monograph highlights the shift from reductive perspective of nonlinear science to the holistic perspective of nonlinear science, including fractal geometry. From a nonlinear perspective, science is catching up and verifying the ancient wisdom of mythology.

Perspectives

I am proud of this little monograph, as it condenses much of my work over the past three decades into an easy- to-read, story-based format, including illustrations, many of which I have drawn myself.
