What is it about?

The paper describes a study in which Initial Teacher Education staff at two Scottish universities were interviewed. The tutors were asked about their views on teaching inclusion. Their answers were analysed using two different theories:_x000D_ 1. Pedagogical Approaches in Action _x000D_ 2. Menter's ideas about the place of university in preparing teachers_x000D_ The researchers found that more time needs to be given to thinking about what tutors and students assume about different pupils. They also found that tutors teach in an inclusive way but do not make it clear to students that they are showing them how to teach different learners when they teach.

Why is it important?

Teachers in Scotland are expected to be able to teach very different children. However, lots of teachers say that they don't feel confident to do so. This study looked at what happens during their training year and what stopped the student teachers learning to be more inclusive.
