What is it about?
Concerned about the ability to develop mathematical understanding through integrated STEM activities, I engaged preservice math teachers in a math-focused integrated STEM activity that involved radian angle measure and light reflection through a digital task. Not only did the preservice math teachers use spatial thinking to make sense of radian angle measure; they also described light reflection using mathematical terms and concepts. One preservice teacher called it “Mirror Logic!” I hope that this work can encourage math teachers to use math-focused integrated STEM activities to support students' learning of mathematics, but to also highlight meaningful mathematical applications and connections to other STEM disciplines.
