What is it about?
Our cultural object is an old railway station from the early 20th century, which holds significant historical and cultural value as it reflects the German heritage in traditional architecture brought to southern Brazil during European colonization. This article intituled “Wood used in ancient railway station building in southern Brazil” presents original data on traditional architecture carpentry, and show highlights bellow._x000D_ a) Use of wood in traditional architecture involves selecting different native species of the Rain Forest._x000D_ _x000D_ b) During this early period, there was already regional transportation of wood, very likely related to its technological properties._x000D_ c) Low-density woods are exclusively used in roof components to reduce the weight of the structure, while medium- and high-density woods are employed in load-bearing components and finishes._x000D_ d) The comparison with other studies in the region reveals a possible pattern in the cultural use of wood in large historical buildings of the past._x000D_
