Why is it important?

The study is significant as it contributes to politeness theories and specifically theories of face. The study indicates that both verbal and non verbal cues are important in the interpretation of greeting exchange among the Maasai of Tanzania.

Perspectives

I had a great pleasure writing this article about Maasai greetings. I was interested in bringing to the stage some pragmatic and sociolinguistic issues accompanying Maasai greetings. I appreciate all the comments I received from my informants and from the journal editor. I hope the reader will find pleasure reading this article as it unveils some facts from a non Bantu language spoken by a slow changing community which normally maintains its traditional values
