What is it about?

There is growing academic interest in parliamentary diplomacy. This is a welcome development because for many years attention to the parliamentarization of international affairs had rather focused on (mainly technical) interparliamentary cooperation, and been chiefly discussed among parliamentary practitioners themselves._x000D_ This now consolidating academic literature requires a fresh approach not only because there still remain many important gaps and problematic issues to be examined. This article will first set the study of parliamentary diplomacy in its wider context, offering examples and definitions. It will then review its main findings to date – before providing a number of important research questions that need further attention. Indeed, it is argued that future studies will need to address them in more detail in order to further strengthen academic research on this ever-expanding worldwide phenomenon. The conclusions will also include a practical suggestion for developing even more this important new dimension in diplomatic studies._x000D_
