What is it about?
This study looks at how an instance of disrupted communication during a plenary sitting of the European Parliament is recontextualized at different levels: the verbatim report of the sitting and its written translation into English; the simultaneous interpretation of the source speech into 21 official languages of the EU.

Why is it important?
Institutional communication is regulated by pre-established procedures. However, when norms are flouted, different reactions may be identified in both the micro and macro-contexts where such communication occurs. In a multilingual setting such as the European Parliament (EP) plenary sittings, communication is also highly mediated, as it is made available to potential recipients in the form of specific texts, which are translated and interpreted. The analysis of these reactions can shed light on the professional practices (un)shared by EP simultaneous interpreters and point to potential challenges in content accessibility by members of the target audience.
