What is it about?

We found evidence for selectivity in the participation in active labour market programmes among young welfare recipients in Germany. This selectivity follows human capital criteria, including education and work experience. However, we did not find evidence for selection into programmes according to social original characteristics.

Our research is relevant for the evaluation on how policies of social investment are applied at the street level.

Perspectives

Working on this article has greatly help us improve our understanding of how the structural layers of society affect individual participation in state programmes and how individual characteristics and agency come into play here.
