What is it about?

Decency, one of the most important aspects of the emancipatory promise of the Enlightenment, is especially relevant today as various ascendant reactionary movements not only completely trample over any standards of decency-but ironically, such movements are the responses to global notions of liberal, secular decency that challenge local, traditional values of hierarchy and exclusion. Roach's Decency and Difference will be the starting point for considerations of decency, all too lacking today with the many reactionary populisms and ethno-religious nationalisms defending differences and hierarchies that are harmful to many people.
