Changes in Colombian and Korean Teachers’ Self-Efficacy from talis 2018 and its Current Relation with Teacher Digital Competencies

What is it about?

This article examines the relationship between Teacher Digital Competencies (TDC) and Teacher Self-Efficacy (TSE), which plays a significant role in students’ academic success, especially in the context of increased use of technology in education due to the COVID19 pandemic. The study compares the TSE and TDC of Korean and Colombian teachers and explores if sociodemographic and school characteristics affect TDC in these two countries. Results indicate that TSE, sociodemographic variables, and school characteristics explain Colombian TDC, while only TSE is related to Korean TDC. Colombian teachers also show higher TSE before and after the pandemic than Korean teachers. Interestingly, the study found a decrease in the general measure of TSE for both Korean and Colombian teachers after COVID19, but an increase in the means for the TSE related to ICT.
