What is it about?

This review essay assesses three recent books on fascism, two of which are histories and one of which details the current ways in which fascist tendencies in the US are attacking historical objectivity. The essay details how a fear of fascism coming to America in 2024 has structured contemporary politics and influenced historians to consider antifascism in the past. It also shows how current understandings of fascist developments in the United States are insufficiently theorized, exaggerating the extent to which fascism has already arrived. This also skews the writing on the history of the left and and antifascist mobilizations of the past.
