From Union Networks to Lula Livre: an Analysis of US – Brazil Trade Union Solidarity Movements in the 21st Century

This article analyzes three solidarity campaigns involving US and Brazilian unions during the 21st century. The article provides a historic look at US-Brazil trade union relations and then discusses why the three cases were or were not successful in achieving their initial goals. The authors argue that transnational union activism is dependent on the national-level political and economic context, but can also produce unexpected positive results in some cases.
