What is it about?
In philosophy language there has been a long discussion whether meaning is necessary for understanding the function of language, and if so how meaning should then be characterized. I argue in this paper that an evolutionary approach to meaning, holding that linguistic meaning evolved from higher animals ability to conceptualize their sensations, and meaning therefore is the thoughts we associate with words and sentence. Consequently, I subscribe to an updated form of the old expressive theory of meaning.
