What is it about?
This review seeks to analyze one of the most recent contributions within cognitive linguistics, Figuring out Figuration. A cognitive linguistic account, authored by Peña-Cervel and Ruiz de Mendoza Ibáñez (2022). Traditionally, the most outstanding paradigms within cognitive linguistics had focused upon the study of metaphor and metonymy. The volume reviewed largely expands this strand of research, by providing a comprehensive analysis of the principal figures of speech within this framework. The analysis of each figure mainly deals with the cognitive activities involved in its processing and also upon the effects which are communicated by it. Both the perspective of modeling and a usage-based approach become important unifying aspects of the analysis of figurative uses of language. On the whole, therefore, this book represents an innovative perspective on the analysis of figurative language within cognitive linguistics and cognitive pragmatics. _x000D_
