Effect of drought stress on the formation and lignification of eucalyptus wood cells

What is it about?

The differentiation process of the cellular element and condition of adaptation of the species to the water stress environment influence the characteristics anatomical of the wood. The vessel element differentiation process affects fibre formation with reductions in cell wall thickness, form factor, and lignin in the cell wall lignin. The clone E. grandis x E. camaldulensis originated from a dry climate region was little affected by water stress, the clone E. urophylla originated from the humid climate region suffers from water stress and generated more lignin in the cell walls of fibers and vessels.
