What is it about?

Gentiana species are medicinal plants containing important iridoids and secoiridoids. Gentiana boissieri, which is endemic to Turkey, is an important medicinal plant, as are other Gentiana species. Gentiana boissieri, which occurs only in a very limited area, is endangered by human impacts such as mining and is on the verge of extinction. In this study, plant tissue culture techniques and micropropagation abilities of Gentiana boissieri were compared with the type species "Gentiana lutea". In the study, it was shown that Gentiana boissieri can be easily micropropagated and grown in pots. To our knowledge, this is the first tissue culture study with Gentiana boissieri.
