What is it about?

The cultivation of lettuce although being very promising as a culinary component, its yield monitoring studies through irrigation and nutrient management has not been widely research undertaken. The overall results indicate that moderate deficit irrigation schedule at IW/CPE 0.8 accommodated with 50% RDN as inorganic fertilizer plus 50% RDN as vermicompost was found to be the best treatment combination for optimizing marketable yield, higher water productivity and nitrogen economy which could be advocated to the lettuce growers of the Indo-Gangetic plains for profitable farming. Although, physiological attributes were significantly improved in optimum irrigation scheduling (IW/CPE 1.0). The study also revealed a high impact on the lettuce yield owing to soil-water stress and imbalance of plant nutrients. Thus the consensus of a well managed irrigation and nutrient scheduling can be the future to the promising nutritive lettuce production and its marketability for better remuneration of its growers under sole cropping or even intercropping situations.
