What is it about?

This article looks at the Japanese government's Society 5.0 initiative and its use of AI. It concludes that the government use of the term AI is ambiguous and that this ambiguity obscures concerning implications of the initiative. Chief amongst these implications is the expansion of digital surveillance in everyday spaces. The article propose that the keyword 'organization' can provide a way to understand the impact of this surveillance and its roots in earlier forms of AI.
