What is it about?
This paper draws on findings from a systematic review of published work globally on museums’ responses to covid-19 and use of digital technologies. This can be used in order to determine best practices in digitization for museum professionals, including how to create engaging digital content, boost tourism using digital technologies, copyright management, and legal protection. It can be used to inform museums across Vietnam and beyond of best practices for covid-recovery, by showing what museum professionals think they will take into their future practices in order to maintain the sustainability and relevance of museums. By bringing together all these best practices and suggestions for the future, this review provides guidelines for museum professionals on how to develop their operations in line with international directions. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of what museums did during covid and how they are changing their use of digital technologies, innovations, and how to best use available resources, along with how copyright can be applied to digital content. This can be used as a ‘roadmap’ for museum professionals, including best practices, successes and failures, as well as guidelines on audience engagement and copyright management. This will fill a need in Vietnam for digital culture policy, digital skills, and knowledge on how to manage copyright issues with digital content and, subsequently, assist the national museum sector through digital transition.
