Why is it important?
There are varieties of clause patterns in Chinese, which can provide more sophisticated choices to the system.
Perspectives
Similar to the transitivity system in English presented by Halliday & Matthiessen (2004/2008), the transitivity system in Chinese is simultaneously constructed from two parts, i.e. the sub-systems of PROCESS TYPE and AGENCY. The sub-system of PROCESS TYPE determines the semantic configurations of the processes. The sub-system of AGENCY determines both the voice and the feature of agency of the processes.
