What is it about?

This is a detailed review of Samy Cohen's book, 'Doves Among Hawks. Struggles of the Israeli Peace Movements'. The review welcomes the moderate and balanced tone of Cohen's book, and the focus on ongoing Israeli civil society peace efforts, but challenges some of the central claims and arguments. I challenge the notion that it was an Israeli psychology of fear that inhibited the success of the peace movement, and emphasise the extent to which Israeli disenchantment with 'land for peace' was justified by the outcome of the Oslo process and the Gaza Disengagement, which led to greater violence and insecurity for Israelis.
