What is it about?
This paper present recent investigations of Middle Stone Age, Later Stone Age, Neolithic, and Meroitic sites discovered in northern Butana in central Sudan. This contribution is a report of the first season of our landscape archaeological survey in 2022 with a brief description of the sites and the archaeological material._x000D_ The manuscript tries to present the landscape of the area, archaeological sites distributions, more detailed lithic characteristics of one of the MSA sites and puts them in the context of similar finds in other areas of central and eastern Sudan. The results are suggestive of the great importance of the surveyed area for the research on human cultural evolution and long-term adaptation within the regions of northeastern Africa. We believe that this report will be of interest to those working in adjacent African regions, but also to the readers interested in the archaeological record of different time periods. _x000D_
