What is it about?
Responding to the limitations of the current literature on liberal and democratic values, this study conceptualizes political illiberalism before validating a set of measurements of illiberal political values. Unlike previous works that have leaned closer to the issue of populism in trying to understand the shadow of liberalism, this study reverse engineers a definition of political illiberalism from what can be considered as the basic tenets of political liberalism. Thus, it paves the way for future studies on the political psychology of political illiberalism as something distinct from authoritarian tendencies and populist attitudes. Moreover, it posits areas for future inquiries on how political illiberalism manifests itself at the level of regimes.
