What is it about?
This essay discusses the usefulness of Jung's ideas to emerging research in psychedelic neuroscience and associated therapies. It looks at some of Jung's early ideas on the use of psychedelics and then develops a theory that seeks to ground his ideas in evolutionary neuroscience. It is proposed that this evolutionary approach to Jungian theory can help elucidate the neurobiological mechanisms underpinning both Indigenous use of psychedelics as well as Western literary and philosophical traditions such as Goethe, German Idealism and Nietzsche.
