What is it about?
Derealization is a detached or estranged view of life as if experiencing life as a dream, movie or video game. It is associated with anxiety and panic attacks but in some cases anxiety tends to reveal what some feel is a shattering of the veil that separates a person from an immersion in living reality. Certain cultures and philosophical viewpoints might call the latter experience the lifting of the veil of maya to reveal the true reality that exists beyond what we call waking reality.

Why is it important?
The article is an attempt to view derealization as less of a psychological disorder and more as a philosophical view of life.
