What is it about?

The article analyses the changing role of the Party-State regarding the activities of NGOs in China. It offers an explanation of the rationale of the apparently contradictory strategy that tries to give some freedom to the NGOs while maintaining them under control, especially American NGOs, that have contributed to the US strategy of “regime change” in various parts of the world. Moreover, the article suggest that China should be even more careful about the mega trade and investment treaties supported by the US and some of its allies and the multinational companies in the US, Europe and Japan, that may constitute a serious threat to China independence and sovereignty.

Perspectives

This article is part of a research project I started in 1997 on China’s reforms and their consequences both internally and internationally; 4 books have already been published as well as a few articles, including this one. A fifth book on China’s strategy for reclaiming world power status is presently under contract with Routledge. For more information see my website: www.ecmi.ch.
