What is it about?

We include for the first time the genus Rheochlus (Diptera: Chironomidae) in a DNA phylogenetic analysis. The work validates Rheochlus and expands our understanding of the genus and its phylogeny within the Tribe Podonomini. Podonominae genera have been known from imaginal and preimaginal stages, except for Microzetia Séguy and Rheochlus Brundin known previously only from imaginal stages. Here we describe and illustrate the pupa of Rheochlus for the first time.
