What is it about?

This article evaluates the current structure of the UN system from the perspective of strategic theory and doctrine. It provides proposals for each level of the UN structure through the lens of strategic theory and discusses six main conceptual themes that need to be clarified in a new doctrine.

Why is it important?

Whether we like it or not, a great majority of peace operations occur in warfare-like conditions. Although the UN is a sui-generis organization and different from the states or security alliances such as NATO, I believe it is high time we needed to look at peace operations through the lens of strategic theory, which has been discussed for more than a century.
