What is it about?

The question is whether the high numbers of casualties among t.he Jewish community during the Cossack uprising in 1648 provided by two contemporary authors are gross exaggerations.

Why is it important?

Because they do not necessarily have to be. Furthermore the explanations by Stampfer for much lower numbers are not based on reliable numbers, such as the number of houses or the number of seats in the synagogues.
