What is it about?

Meaning construction in a social group sits in the discourses and builds (and constantly reconstructs) the social reality. It is far from obvious how to apply discourse analysis and cognitive semantics for the analysis of field notes and records (archive) by interpretative anthropology? This paper is based on a case study of a contemporary new religious movement in Romania, Serbia, and Hungary. The author shows his new methodological and theoretical contribution to anthropology. He recognizes five principles of meaning construction after analysing the discourses of 'angel', 'energy' and 'resonance".

Why is it important?

The article shows a new method to combine discourse analysis, cognitive semantics, and the database of long- term participant observation. The author recognizes the principle of 1. compatibility, 2. relevance, 3. creativity, 4. vagueness, and 5. relativity in the discursive meaning-construction process.

Perspectives

The author summarizes the theses of his Ph.D. dissertation in this paper, showing his new results of an 8 year long participant observation amongst a contemporary ecumenical Charismatic Christian movement founded in 2008.
