What is it about?
This article asks if the First Intermediate Period was a break in Egyptian history, like we tend to treat it. By looking at social practices around the use and making of bread and beer in the Old Kingdom, First Intermediate Period, and Middle Kingdom, it highlights places of both change and continuity in First Intermediate Period practices that link it firmly to the periods both before and after it.
