What is it about?
This article discusses a peculiar sermon held in 1702 at the court of August 'der Starke', of Poland. This sermon, presented in the year that Poland was facing a Swedish invasion, places the blame for all of Poland's problems on the female mistresses of the Polish king. The article tries both to contextualize the sermon and to link its presentation of women to a long-standing (Franciscan) homiletic tradition.
