What is it about?

An astrolabe in an Innsbruck museum was made in England, for use probably by a member of the Lancastrian court such as Henry Bolingbroke (later King Henry IV) and may have been taken to Europe at the end of the 14th century.

Why is it important?

It shows that the design of the instrument is similar to those shown in Geoffrey Chaucer's 'Treatise on the Astrolabe' and that he was part of the family group that included the your Henry Bolingbroke. The importance os astronomy/astrology to the ruling families is highlighted.
