What is it about?

The role of coalition governments in promoting accountability has gained traction among scholars in the recent past especially in Africa. In Kenya, three coalition governments have emerged since 2002. The emergence of these three coalition governments followed a prolonged struggle on the part of the citizen both within and outside for accountability. Whilst the coalition governments have initiated a raft of policy, legal and institutional reforms aimed at entrenching and strengthening accountability in government, corruption, human right abuse, elite impunity and state capture remains endemic. As such the paper avers that there is need to shift the focus to implementation and enforcement of the various policies and laws. This will in the long run, guarantee sustainable accountability in government. Secondly, a constituency of like-minded citizen should continue agitating for accountability as part of the broader national interest.
