Why is it important?

This article is among the first to compare how two major Arabic international news channels used visual technologies to cover ISIS. It reveals important differences in how violence and brutality were visually represented, offering fresh insights into the role of newsroom visuals in shaping news narratives.

Perspectives

I was inspired to conduct this study to explore how visual technologies are used in reporting on terrorism. Comparing RT Arabic and Sky News Arabia allowed me to see the distinct editorial choices each channel made in representing ISIS, and how visuals can reflect deeper newsroom practices.
