The article indicates various dimensions in which an instrument of confiscation of assets has been expanding at the EU and national levels. Every extension in this field means an interference with fundamental rights, e.g., the right to property, procedural rights of individual in criminal proceedings. Therefore being aware of the scope of these extensions is important - it enables to create adequate safeguards for protection of fundamental rights at each relevant level. The article presents partial results of research project on ‘Extended confiscation and its justification in light of fundamental rights and general principles of EU law’, financed by Polish National Science Centre in years 2021-2024 (project number: 2020/39/D/HS5/01114).
