What is it about?
Nonviolent resistance movements in repressive regimes are complex societal phenomena. To help understand these processes, we offer a new framework of analysis. This framework, rooted in earlier research into nonviolent resistance, can be used to analyse nonviolent resistance movements in repressive states. We illustrate this potential by assessing the Russian domestic resistance to the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, concluding that many of the required factors for effective nonviolent resistance were lacking in this context.
