What is it about?

A depth analyze of results achieved in engagements to fulfill the right to education in their mother tongue all 9 national minorities living in Albania was object of this paper. The study was focused on: (i) analysis of legislation to evaluate the level of its approximation with the requirements of international documents and EU legislation, (ii)the assessment of the opportunities that have the national minorities in Albania to education in their mother tongue, (iii) Identification of the problems and challenges in process of implementation of this right, (iv) evaluation of the perceptions of the citizens belonging to the national minorities regarding to level of fulfil this right (v) identification of possibilities and instruments that can be used to increase the level of fulfill this human right. The needs related to: (i) legislation changes related to requirements for opening classes for teaching in the mother tongue, (ii) capacity building to support editing and printing textbook and teaching materials and teachers education, (iv) strengthening capacities for cooperation with border countries, regional cooperation and with kin-state are highlighted in this paper.
