What is it about?

In 2021, the policy think tank of the Indian government, NITI Aayog, published a 58-page Vision Document titled "Sustainable Development of Little Andaman Island.” The long-term objective of the proposal is to make Little Andaman Island a major financial tourism destination that can rival places like Singapore and Hong Kong. It uses the island's natural resources and strategic location to achieve this. The proposed megacity in Little Andaman may have a significant impact on the Onge people and other indigenous groups. To fully understand the requirements, concerns, and traditional practices of the tribes, extensive discussions are required. It is important to safeguard their way of life, land rights, and cultural legacy. Plans for sustainable development should address their involvement, inclusion, and benefit-sharing while making sure that their areas are protected from exploitation and invasion.
