What is it about?
Ireland has been an international leader in the COVID-19 vaccine rollout. Notwithstanding such success, inadequate legal frameworks with regards to consent and the absence of a vaccine injury redress scheme highlight the importance of states being legally prepared to respond global public health emergencies. Whilst this is most often discussed in terms of command and control measures such as social distancing requirements and lockdowns, what is needed is an expanded understanding of legal preparedness that takes account of a range of domestic legal frameworks that intersect with public health responses to such emergencies.
