What is it about?

In medicine the application of machine learning (ML) is becoming increasingly fundamental and new techniques are being used to resolve complex problems and to generate knowledge for medical decision support. There are several potential applications for ML use in the field of Healthcare. ML is a programming technique that may be incorporated into health technologies and it is moving in the direction precision medicine, e.g. providing a way to warn against combinations of drugs that should not be taken together; to classify images for identifying diseases; to assist the physicians about which condition a patient might have or what treatment might work better and much more. In light of this innovation, many regulatory and ethical issues should be considered. The aim of this work is to understand how sustainable is the regulatory system in relation to these changes that are taking place and how legal procedures should be revised in order to adapt them to the protection of the patient.
