What is it about?
The present study was conducted to identify the volatile blend from eggs, faecal pellets and whole body wash extract of mated female of pink bollworm, Pectinophora gossypiella (Saunders). The identification of correct volatile blend is a key step to know the oviposition deterrence potential against pest. Seven compounds have been identified from methanolic extract of faecal pellet samples that contained hexadecanoic acid, 9, 12-Octadecadienoic acid, 9-Octadecenoic acid and their methyl esters along with methyl stearate. However, only four methyl esterified forms were found in eggs and female body wash extract in common. This clearly shows that the compounds remain constant and conserved for the species but role of these compounds needs to be proven.
