What is it about?

This article examines the way that the letter of 1 Timothy refers to the person of the Holy Spirit in the context of conflicts in the church community to which the letter is addressed. The letter references an early hymn that speaks of Jesus as "vindicated by the Spirit" when he was resurrected, and just after this reference there is a discussion of how that same Holy Spirit predicts division and false teaching in communities. This article analyzes the way that the Holy Spirit is invoked when discussing false teaching, and then draws practical applications for contemporary Pentecostal readers, discussing how one might read this section of 1 Timothy in a Pentecostal fashion.
