What is it about?

The article details how Latino/a Pentecostal immigrants in US read sections of the Epistle of James. It highlights the group's social location and religious practices. I also reflect on the themes of (Pentecostal) biblical interpretation, theology of retribution, social marginalization, and immigration.

Why is it important?

Most academic studies concentrate on how biblical scholars and theologians interpret the Bible. This article gives insight on how non-academic (ordinary) Pentecostals read and use the Bible in their daily life. It is undeniable that one's social location influences the way Bible is interpreted and used - this applies to academics, and non-academics alike.

Perspectives

I hope that this article makes you reflect on biblical interpretation and its effects; your own social location; theology of retribution; and immigration and marginalization in society --- and hopefully many other things as well.
