What is it about?
The study of esotericism emerged during the 1990s as a new academic program of research focused on previously-neglected historical traditions in Western culture. This article argues that recent efforts to develop a "global history of esotericism" are unintentionally Eurocentric, and commends efforts to focus on esoteric practices rather than discourse.
